Visiting Artist: University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point

I just had the pleasure of spending a few days at UWSP with my talented companion, David Schnuckel. It was a special trip for us as it was the first time we would think about collaborating together. While we both have great admiration for each other's work, it was very interesting and somewhat challenging to think about how we would go about actually making something together, as we tend to mostly be encouraging from a distance (literally, and figuratively.)

David and I met in the middle (roughly) at Stevens Point. David is currently living in Rochester, NY where he is serving as a visiting professor in the glass department at Rochester Institute of Technology. I am living out in Stanwood, WA and working as the registrar at Pilchuck Glass School. While we often are somewhat limited by distance, the opportunity to do a visiting artist stint in UWSP seemed the perfect way of moving forward on plans we've had to collaborate for quite some time.

David and I were incredibly impressed and humbled by the very engaged and helpful students and fellow artists in the UWSP sculpture and print community. We had so many people jumping in to help, and genuinely interested in what we were doing.

I feel very positive about future possibilities of David and I continuing to make work together. I cannot help but feel that the distance between us will only serve to create an interesting dialog as we work through our ideas and creations.

Looking forward to what's to come!
