TOOL PATHS with Brian Gillespie
Pilchuck Glass School, Session 2
Explore the intersections of digital design, tool making, and kiln-formed glass. Rhino 3-D modeling software and digital fabrication provide opportunities for visualization, iteration, specificity, and modularity. Digital design facilitates tiling systems and multiples. Consider how commands, such as revolve and extrude, exist in both digital design and traditional moldmaking processes. Some experience in Rhino is helpful; a laptop is required. ALL LEVELS

From Life: Casting with Alginate
Warm Glass UK, Online Course
Learn to use alginate—a seaweed based, eco-friendly, skin-safe, economical mold making material—to create sculptural glass castings from life with glass artist Rebecca Arday. Rebecca will demonstrate two styles of molds: a bucket mold where the model is submerged (i.e., a hand), and a lay-up mold, where alginate is painted on and reinforced with plaster bandage (i.e., the face). You will use your alginate molds to create wax positives which can be manipulated if desired and ultimately cast into glass in a plaster-silica refractory mold. The course will cover the process from start to finish. Suitable for beginners in mould making, kiln casting would be advantageous but not necessary.
